Why Are Liberals Allowed to be Racist?

RacismOur culture seems to be outraged at the “pervasive racism” all around us. But is it real outrage, or selective outrage designed to target certain people and groups while leaving other offenders alone?

Racism has no place in a civil society. In a diverse culture such as America, it should be all the more damnable. We should collectively expose and shun any group that seeks to adhere to racist ideology. As they exercise their freedom of speech and assembly their hideous worldview should be exposed and readily condemned.

The outrage experienced over the last few weeks due to events in Charlottesville shows two things: racism is still alive and well in the United States and, outrage over racism is often biased.

While protestors demanded the removal of Confederate statues across the country, many of the same people that find tremendous offensive in images of historical figures don’t seem to care much about the systemic racism from their own ranks. One glaring example of this is the almost unbelievable comment made by liberal news host Bill Maher.

During an interview with Sen. Ben Sasse (NE), Maher casually dropped the n-word. A recent article carries the exchange:

“Maher said during the interview, ‘ I’ ve got to get to Nebraska more.’

“Sasse replied, ‘ You’ re welcome. We’ d love to have you work in the fields with us.’

“And then Maher hit Sasse with the unthinkable: ‘ Work in the fields? Senator, I’ m a house n****r.’”

Now, one has to wonder how Maher was able to casually throw out that word without a second thought. In what world did he think this was appropriate, even as a joke? But the greater issue is why Maher still has a job. Let’s be honest enough to say that if this had been Sean Hannity, Tucker Carleson, or literally any other well-known conservative host, he would be out of a job. The liberal media would have beaten the story to pulp and intimidated every single sponsor until removal (firing) would be the only option.

Did that happen with Maher? As a matter of fact, other than a typical apology from Maher and HBO, nothing happened. Liberals yawned. Social justice warriors don’t seem to care. And those “deeply offended” by statues from our nation’s history appear unconcerned with the overt racist comments of a very public figure.

Then again, racists have plagued the Democratic Party for many years. Anyone from West Virginia knows the most famous politician from the state was Robert Byrd. Byrd remained in Congress for decades, elected by Democrats from West Virginia year after year. And yet, Byrd was a former KKK member and lifelong racist. Why didn’t anyone from the Democratic leadership denounce Byrd and seek to replace him in Congress?

And let’s not forget about Margaret Sanger, the racist eugenicist founder of Planned Parenthood. Sanger, a liberal Democrat, was fond of saying that Planned Parenthood was created to rid the world of “inferior” races, such as African Americans. And yet, to this day Planned Parenthood gives out awards in her name.

A bust of Sanger stands in the Smithsonian. A group of African Americans recently wrote a letter reminding the Smithsonian of the racist legacy of Sanger:

“Perhaps the Gallery is unaware that Ms. Sanger supported black eugenics, a racist attitude toward black and other minority babies, an elitist attitude toward those she regarded as ‘ the feeble minded;’ speaking at a rally of Ku Klux Klan women; and communications with Hitler sympathizers…Also the notorious ‘ Negro Project,’ which sought to limit, if not eliminate black births, was her brainchild. Despite these well- documented facts of history, her bust sits proudly in your gallery as a hero of justice.”

The group has a legitimate right to be outraged that a bust of a racist sits in an exhibit with busts of people like Martin Luther King and Rosa Parks. Especially considering the fact that the exhibit is to commend the achievements of those that sought racial equality. A description of the exhibit says “great achievements…striking down long-standing segregationist practices and discrimination in American society.”

Given this reality it’s understandable that the group has asked the Smithsonian to remove the image. And yet, Democrats seem unconcerned about Sanger’s racist legacy. They don’t appear to be interested in removing her name from their party or disavowing the organization she began.

Liberals love pointing out any hint of racism among conservatives. They want to tie the Alt-Right to any conservative person or group they can as a “demonstration” that conservatives as a whole are racist. Of course this is a tremendous lie. Conservatism believes in human dignity and respect for all people, regardless of the color of their skin (or whether they are born or unborn).

While liberals point their fingers and demand satisfaction for their social justice campaign to rid our country of racist reminders, the attitude of racism is alive and well within their own party.
