DIED in 2017: Two Notable Deaths You Probably Didn’t Hear About

Posted on January 18, 2018 in Life, Theology by

Much more could be said about these two faith driven people. To say our world is worse for losing them would be an understatement. But what occurred to me was the relative media silence at their passing. Why were they not heralded on lists of notable people we’ve lost in 2017? Perhaps it was because the mission of their lives stands in direct opposition to everything the media and this world holds dear. It makes me wonder how many other “notable voices” have gone silent, unnoticed.

Popular Christian Author: God is Ok with LGBT Relationships So the Church Needs to Accept Them

Posted on November 9, 2016 in Marriage, Sexuality, Theology by

Popular Christian author Jen Hatmaker recently had her books pulled from the largest Christian bookstore in the country for her statements supporting same-sex relationships. It’s become commonplace in our society to hear of Christians “evolving” on this issue and voicing their support for what the Bible calls sin. It almost seems expected for popular pastors, authors, speakers, and religious personalities to tickle the ears of the masses with this “conviction” that didn’t exist ten years ago.

A brief statement by Hatmaker bears significant theological problems and is worth looking at to understand why her view is not in line with what the Bible teaches. She said:

A “Christian Feminist” Shares Thoughts on the Transgender Bathroom Issue

Seeking to keep bathrooms and locker rooms segregated by biological gender is not the answer to protecting the privacy of women and children?

Mock’s reasoning is that those with evil intentions will still find a way to abuse children so we need to focus on the other ways predators find their victims. This thinking, for me, is appalling, at best. Mock is declaring that protecting the privacy of women and children in public bathrooms and locker rooms will not prevent predators from abusing kids so we need to ignore the threat. Rather than take away one avenue for predators to harm children, we should ignore it and focus on other avenues.

Well-Known Pastor Refutes Authors Claims About the Bible and Homosexuality

Posted on June 17, 2015 in Marriage, Theology by

Some Christians are beginning to accept homosexuality as a legitimate lifestyle, dismissing the biblical evidence that homosexuality is sin. The theological leap they make to ignore biblical doctrine in order to support homosexuality is incredible. But once again this shows a need for theological training.

Encouraging the exodus from historical biblical views concerning homosexuality have been recent books by such authors as Matthew Vines and Ken Wilson. Their books argue that the traditional understanding of biblical teaching on the issue of homosexuality is flawed in any number of ways (and for various reasons) and, therefore, needs reimagined.

Tim Keller, a highly respected pastor, theologian, and author, has taken the time to do an in-depth rebuttal of some of the basic arguments found in Vines’ and Wilson’s books. In Keller’s opinion there is six basic arguments each book makes for the support of homosexuality that he seeks to refute, they are:

Author Wants to Recreate the Christian Sexual Ethic in Her Own Image

Posted on May 5, 2015 in Marriage, Sexuality by

It’s no secret that the Bible is under attack. What is interesting is the fact that it’s the oldest (and first) attack in the book (yes, pun intended). It’s the old “did God really say?” attack that is once again being foisted upon Christians and readers of the Bible.

Nowhere is this attack more prevalent than in the area of sexuality.

For centuries there has been a certain sexual ethic that has served as a guide for Christians. That doesn’t mean people didn’t ignore it or abuse it at times, but the truth that a guiding ethic for human sexuality existed can’t be ignored.

While we are all very familiar with the fact that the Christian/biblical view of sexuality with regards to homosexuality has been a constant topic in our culture; what has not been so obvious is the other aspects of sexuality that are now under attack.
