How God’s Sovereignty Helps Explain the Events of This Life

As humans we have a hunger to know the facts, to know everything there is to know about a situation. It’s what drives our 24 hour a day news cycle. It’s what propels us to know the motives behind a mass shooting in Las Vegas. We want to know why things happen because, we reason, if we know the motive we can process the situation and make peace with it. So we are naturally propelled to know the “why” of every situation.
This makes reconciling God’s revealed will and His decreed will difficult. But we have to properly understand how these two wills work together in harmony or we will be tempted to think there is division in God.

God’s Sovereignty: A Misunderstood Doctrine that Answers Our Toughest Questions

That is a great place to start because it gives us a picture of exactly what it means to be sovereign and let’s us know that only God is capable of being sovereign. Since sovereignty entails absolute control over something, we need to first realize and understand that only God can be, or is sovereign.
We also need to understand that God’s sovereignty extends to everything that He has created. Practically speaking, this means that God has absolute authority and control over…everything. There is nothing outside of God’s scope of sovereignty. This means that every planet, every ocean, every animal, every human, and every atom in existence is under the ultimate and absolute authority and control of God.

Government Decides to Appoint Nanny for Every Child from Birth to Eighteen Years Old

It sounds like something out of a horror movie. And yet parents in Scotland are living this nightmare right now. The government has passed and begun to implement a new law mandating a government appointed overseer for every child from birth to eighteen years of age.
No, seriously, I’m not making this up, you can read about it here. And no, I didn’t make a mistake or fall for a satire piece in The Onion. This is actually happening in our world. A government has taken the brazen step of deciding that children between birth and eighteen years old need not just one parent, not even two, but two parents and a government nanny tasked with looking out for the “wellbeing” of the child.

When Caesar Demands That Which Belongs to God

What belongs to God? Everything!
When Jesus says to render to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God (Matthew 22:21), He was not giving government superior status over God. He was not even giving equal status of Government to God. Rather, He gave government a limited realm which we must respect.
But there are times when we should not render to Government because Government is asking for more than they should.
One example is on Friday, the now famous Colorado Baker, Jack Phillips, lost his latest appeal to the to the Colorado Civil Rights Commission. Told he must bake a cake for a homosexual marriage celebration in violation of his religious beliefs, or else, he remained resolute, “I will stand by my convictions until somebody shuts me down.”

States, Educators, Parents Abandon Common Core For Being Dumb

When Common Core was announced it was touted as the “fix” to an American education system that has been in decline for years. Without much review or investigation into the privately funded, federally promoted standards and curriculum, school boards began approving its implementation. That snowballed into entire states “opting in” to statewide use of Common Core. (It didn’t hurt that the federal government offered millions in monetary enticements to join the program.)
What has been the result of all the pomp and fanfare rolling out Common Core?
