Are Christians Being Persecuted During the Coronavirus Lockdown?

Posted on May 20, 2020 in Public Policy, Religious Freedom, Theology by

It’s understandable that a robust discussion is taking place, after all, unlike a grocery store where you walk in, get your items and walk out without much personal interaction. Meeting as a church family has a higher degree of risk. The church sings together, sending breathe and saliva into the room. The church is prone to close contact such as handshakes and hugging, the same behavior that caused the virus to spread so rampantly in Italy.

Are You Sure You Want Christians to “Be More Like Jesus”?

Posted on August 22, 2018 in Theology by

These are just a few instances where Jesus “judged” that people had committed sin and clearly called them to stop sinning. Was Jesus being a hypocrite for telling people not to judge and then judging people Himself? Of course not. In fact, Jesus was showing us exactly how to judge other people.

I Am Tired of Evangelical Christians

Posted on March 1, 2018 in Theology by

Most of all, I’m tired of the sin in my own heart. It calls to me daily to enjoy a moment of pleasure and forget about the season of death that will follow. I struggle daily to kill the sin that lives in me. The battle is never ending and tiring. My soul is weary. My heart is heavy.

What makes it harder is that Christians largely don’t know how to “bear one another’s burdens.” We’re too busy being judgmental.

Christian Business and the Ministry of Wealth Creation

Posted on November 21, 2017 in Money by

I live in the “wealth creation” world. Part of my objective is to help people create and maintain assets that will allow them to live life the way they desire. It’s what all of us in the financial services industry seek for our clients on a continual basis.

One notable difference for me is that, as a Christian, I am constantly seeking to integrate my faith into my work and be “light and salt” to those I interact with. Many believe that wealth and religion are segregated. The thought persists that our finances and our faith have nothing to do with one another. Nothing could be farther from the truth.

In recent years more Christians have begun to understand the just how intertwined their faith and their finances really are.

Joel Osteen, Social Media, and Hurricane Harvey – A Lesson in Truth

Posted on September 14, 2017 in Theology by

I’m not interested in speculating whether Lakewood Church was flooded or not. Nor am I interested in discussing whether Osteen should or should not open his church to flood victims. I don’t care if he posts a sign on the front door stating that he’s on vacation and will be back in month. For all I care, Joel and his wife can do a live broadcast from their boat in the Caribbean reminding everyone that if they just believe a little harder they can have their “best life now.” I truly am not interested in what Osteen does with his church building.

But a lot of people are interested. And that’s the problem.

Charlottesville: Thinking Biblically About Racism and Race-Based Violence

Posted on August 15, 2017 in Theology by

As Christians, we need to think biblically about this incident, and about racism in general. Before we do that, I want to point out a couple of things that are important for us to consider.

First, the people involved in this demonstration were young. It has been common to think that racists are old, outdated people that will soon die and take their evil ideas with them. But, the faces in the crowd in Charlottesville were young. I can only assume that their grandfathers are dead because, if they were alive, they would denounce their activity and remind them that they fought a world war because of racism.

Second, racism is a human thing. It’s not merely a white thing,

Here’s Some Verses Christians Need to Stop Taking Out of Context

Posted on August 3, 2017 in Theology by

The lost world often takes Scripture out of context in order to make it mean what they want it to mean. Verses are twisted and little to no exegesis is ever used in the effort to justify sin. This is completely understandable, as lost people do not have the Holy Spirit to guide them in understanding the Bible.

What about Christians that seem to do the same thing? How do we make sense of a professing Christian that holds to an unbiblical view or takes verses out of context? That’s a big conversation reserved for another day. For today, let’s focus on some of the most abused verses in the Bible and see if we can gain some clarity on their proper, contextual and biblical meaning.

Here’s a short list of some of the most misused, abused, and taken out of context verses in the Bible.

Christians Support Abortion and Britain Seeks to Legalize It

Posted on July 27, 2017 in Life by

Even though abortion is still technically illegal in Britain, the law has not been enforced for quite some time. This effort to decriminalize abortion has little to do with the law and more to do with creating a culture of abortion in Britain. If abortion were no longer illegal, providers such as BPAS (British Pregnancy Advisory Service) and Planned Parenthood would have free access to market their services. This would lead to abortion services being marketed to schools, women’s groups, and other public services.

The author of the article cited above said that perhaps some of the blame lies with doctors that oppose legalizing abortion but have remained silent. He also said “the church has also been largely silent.”

Perhaps British Christians should learn from our mistakes as it is currently reported that 29% of American evangelicals say abortion should be legal.

Does Having A Monthly Menstrual Cycle Make You Less of a Man?

Posted on July 6, 2017 in Sexuality, Theology by

Lets be clear. No amount of feelings will change your biological gender. You can really want to be the opposite sex all you want, but there is nothing you can do about it. The surgeries are like putting a band-aid on a gunshot wound. It doesn’t really change what’s going on inside.

If You’re Not Praying for the Persecuted Church – Read This!

Posted on January 10, 2017 in Religious Freedom by

Once again Christians were the most persecuted religious group in the world in 2016. This makes several years in a row that Christians have topped the list as the most persecuted religious group.

What this reality tells us is that those who deny Christians are persecuted for their faith are simply not paying attention. Often we hear about Muslims being persecuted, and it is true that Muslims are the second most persecute religious group in the world. But, denying that Christians are persecuted for their faith can only be done out of ignorance. And, interestingly, Muslims are typically persecuted by other Muslims while Christians are persecuted by Muslims, governments, and others.
