When People Want to Believe the Worst About Reformed Theology

Posted on September 13, 2018 in Uncategorized by

I’m convinced that some simply want to believe the worst and have no interest in a friendly dialogue about the truth claims of Reformed theology. But with so much common ground between Reformed theology and Arminianism, it should be our goal to build one another up, not tear down.

Joel Osteen, Social Media, and Hurricane Harvey – A Lesson in Truth

Posted on September 14, 2017 in Theology by

I’m not interested in speculating whether Lakewood Church was flooded or not. Nor am I interested in discussing whether Osteen should or should not open his church to flood victims. I don’t care if he posts a sign on the front door stating that he’s on vacation and will be back in month. For all I care, Joel and his wife can do a live broadcast from their boat in the Caribbean reminding everyone that if they just believe a little harder they can have their “best life now.” I truly am not interested in what Osteen does with his church building.

But a lot of people are interested. And that’s the problem.

Can A Christian Support Homosexuality and Same-Sex Relationships?

Posted on August 25, 2015 in Marriage, Sexuality by

That’s a loaded question isn’t it? One that continues to be hotly debated in our culture and in the corners of churches across the country. It’s not like many of the other hotly debated theological questions because, unlike the millennium, the mode of baptism, and worship wars; this question carries eternal consequences.

Few of the theological discussions taking place today affect the eternal destination of a person. Consider, whether you are pre-trib, mid-trib, or post-trip, your salvation is secure. Whether you believe in a literal millennial reign of Christ on earth or not in no way affects your salvation. And whether you were baptized three times forward, once backward, or with a bucket over the head doesn’t change your eternal destiny.

But that isn’t true for the question of homosexuality.

There is significant evidence that homosexuality is a moral sin to be repented of (Romans 1:26-28; Lev. 18:22; I Cor. 6:9-11; I Tim. 1:10). These verses, and others, indicate that homosexuality is a sin God finds offensive, an affront to His design for man and woman and marriage. That being the case, it stands to reason that only by repenting of homosexuality can a person be born-again and receive the free gift of salvation in Jesus Christ proclaimed in the Gospel message.

If homosexuality is a sin then there is no way a professing Christian could support homosexuality or same-sex relationships.

Therein lies the problem.

It seems many Christians’ views on homosexuality are “evolving.” For example a well-known Christian counselor for Wheaton College recently resigned her position after revealing that she now supports homosexual relationships; a position she opposed just months before.

How Should Christians Think About Education?

Posted on June 11, 2014 in Home School, Theology by

What is a great education? Some people may envision an Ivy League degree or an “A” student who belongs to the honor society. But as Christians, education is more than memorizing facts and being able to answer mathematical equations. These are all good, and they do makeup part of the educational process, but they are not education; education is more substantial.

Part of the problem is that there is a diminishing definition of education. Today, people have relegated education to a diploma and reading, writing, and arithmetic, but this minimalist view of education is destroying the soul of true education, replacing it with a cookie cutter approach, test focused studies, and ideals that fail to educate.

There are many distinct offerings for education that is often missed, but today we will explore three.

Education is Theological and Spiritual

Movie: “God’s Not Dead” Shakes Theaters With Message of Truth

Posted on March 27, 2014 in Theology by

I’ve been keeping up with the release of the much anticipated “God’s Not Dead” movie in theaters and it seems the faith-filled movie is making waves across the nation. Theaters are selling out, churches are buying tickets to give to friends and their communities, and once again a faith themed movie is topping others.

This movie has a star-studded cast with such names as Kevin Sorbo, Dean Cain, Willie and Korie Robertson, and the Newsboys. Shane Harper, the main character, gained fame playing on Disney’s “Good Luck Charlie.”

In the wake of the creation vs. evolution debate featuring Bill Nye and Ken Ham, God’s Not Dead is based around the question of whether or not God exists. A young college student (Harper) is forced to defend his Christian faith and belief that God is alive when his philosophy professor challenges him in front of the whole class. This movie is perhaps more representative of what takes place on college campuses around the U.S. than many would think.

Watch the trailer below and share it with others. This movie needs our support as it shares a message that is desperately needed in our culture today. If the video doesn’t appear automatically, please refresh your browser.

Homosexuals Don’t Have Facts – Just Emotional Narrative

Posted on March 21, 2014 in Sexuality by

It would be intellectually dishonest and absurdly useless to deny that there is an effort to normalize homosexuality. At every turn steps are being taken to present homosexuals and their families in a positive light as people that just want to “live freely” as everyone else does. Pictures of loving couples and families with adopted kids are splashed everywhere in an attempt to focus on the pretty, positive side of homosexuality.

Can You Share the Gospel With a Gay Friend?

Posted on January 24, 2014 in Sexuality, Theology by

One thing many Christians struggle with is sharing the Gospel with their lost friends, neighbors, and co-workers. Many feel unprepared, insecure, or fear they will be yelled at by people that don’t want to hear about Jesus. Regardless of the reasons why we often don’t share the good news with others, the fact remains that we are called to do so an need to intentionally find ways to witness to others.

As the homosexual movement becomes a more prominent issue in our society Christians need to be prepared to share the Gospel with those identifying as gay. Every person, created in the image of God, is lost in their sin without the redemptive, saving grace of Christ. That means that whether someone is a drug addict, a thief, homosexual, or a really nice person that simply doesn’t know Jesus; all are lost and in need of the Gospel.

For anyone that is wondering where to start or how to go about sharing the Gospel with someone that is gay, help is on the way. The reality is that you really only need to be honest, loving, and allow the grace and truth is Scripture to speak through you. You don’t need a theological education, or be skilled in debate, you just need to care enough to speak and be willing to allow God to use you.
