Reasons: To Have An Abortion Or Not

Posted on November 15, 2013 in Life by

ThinkingTwo articles caught my attention recently. One was from a “parenting” website called “Mommyish” at which a blogger shared a list of reasons to kill your unborn child. Now, I don’t know for sure if the irony of advocating child murder on a parenting website was lost on the writer, but it wasn’t lost on me.

The list of reasons this blogger felt were worthy of killing an unborn child is below.

1. Having a baby would endanger your life.
2. Your birth control failed.
3. You don’t want to have a child because of your career.
4. You feel you are too young.
5. You feel you are too old.
6. You feel strongly about overpopulation.
7. You are worried about the health of the baby.
8. You want no relationship with the person who got you pregnant.
9. You don’t want to have a child.

With the exception of reason number one, the entire list is absurd. Perhaps the most absurd reason of them all is number seven which says that abortion is a good idea if “you are worried about the health of the baby.”

Somehow it makes sense to this writer that if a woman is concerned about her baby’s health it might be a good idea to kill the child. That particular line of logic seems rather, well, illogical. I get it, there is a push to kill kids with disabilities in an effort to “spare” the child a life of suffering or the parents a life of care-taking. Yet another lie from pro-abortion advocates who don’t recognize the true nature of parenting or that quality of life has little to do with some Hollywood idea of “physical perfection.”

When I say that reason number one is an exception I want to be clear. I don’t advocate for abortion at all. But reason number one is the only reason that could even remotely be considered plausible. However, the false talking point from Planned Parenthood and other abortion groups that pregnancy and/or delivery is more dangerous than abortion is pathetically and dangerously false. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Another list was compiled in response to this abortion advocating blogger sharing reasons NOT to have an abortion. The list states

1. It compounds tragedy.
2. It takes innocent lives.
3. It violates civil rights.
4. It punishes innocent people.
5. It can harm women.
6. It is damaging to relationships and families.
7. It never goes away.
8. It creates new problems.
9. It avoids responsibility.
10. It’s not empowering or liberating for women.

What is striking is the level of intellectual and medical information shared in this list. Of course you will have to read the original article to get the full explanation, but major differences between the two are evident.

One list seems to be self-centered and selfish with no regard to the life of the child. The other takes into account not just the unborn child but the long-term health and well-being of the mother as well. What becomes evident is that those advocating for abortion often are interested in devious ideals such as forced population control and euthanasia. Others are simply greedy and recognize the vast amounts of money to be gained through abortion.

When looking at the two lists it becomes clear that there really is not a good reason to kill an unborn child. The main talking points of abortion groups ring hollow and selfish when placed against the reason to oppose abortion.
