MUST READ: To Sharpen Your Skills In Defending Life and Marriage You Must Read These Two Articles

Posted on December 23, 2013 in Life, Marriage by

friends talkingAre you able to defend life and marriage against the arguments people may throw at you?

If the answer to that question is no, I recommend a little study in order to be better prepared to defend these positions. There is no need to be afraid to engage someone because of the arguments they might use against your views; with a little study you can be thoroughly prepared to offer sound logic and biblical support against popular arguments.

The following two articles do an outstanding job of combating popular notions against life and traditional marriage. The first article, from Matt Walsh, addresses the specific arguments of an obviously “logical” pro-abortion advocate. Walsh’s responses are common sense, logical, and show just how absurd some arguments against life can be.

The second article, by Matt Chandler, addresses four basic arguments often used by advocates of homosexuality and other sexual sins. Chandler’s answers are biblically sound but culturally relevant as well.

I highly recommend taking a look at both of these articles then passing them on to someone else. Enjoy.

Seven Persuasive Pro-Choice Arguments from a Rational Thought Provoking Progressive.

I received this message on Facebook from a woman — going by a clearly fake name — who had apparently created a dummy account just for the purpose of messaging me anonymously. Not long after I read it, she either blocked me or deleted her profile. I actually wanted to respond to her privately, but she didn’t give me that option. Instead, I will answer her this way. Her “arguments” are right out of the pro-abortion playbook, so this exchange is of some general relevance:

Matt Walsh— You are a f**cking moron and you suck at writing (and take it from a woman: you are very ugly person), but I was curious to see how terrible and stupid your show would be….. considering every blog post I’ve read appears to have been written by a retard… In fact everything I’ve ever seen you write on your website, Facebook, Twitter…. All of it beyond stupid…. so I tuned in online…… and of course the first thing I hear is you ranting about abortion. That’s what I would expect from a Christian extremist nut job. Your comments were judgmental and hurtful to all women…. We don’t need to hear some d*ckhead bullsh*t misogynistic opinions about abortion…. My next email is going to be to your boss to try to get you removed from the air.

I’ve worked in women’s health service so I thought I’d educate you on a few things. I’m sure this will fall on deaf ears but maybe you’ll re-post my message in one of your “famous” blogs and even if you try to embarrass me….everyone will see the truth……

First, abortion is not an “industry”. It’s not something people do for the money……. Abortion doctors could make a lot more money in another medical field but they decide to enter the women’s health field because they want to help women.

Answering Four Street-Level Arguments for Sexual Immorality

As fallen human beings we tend to explain away or excuse our sin. We all do it. It’s part of our desires to justify ourselves apart from the blood of Christ.

So below are four street-level excuses we commonly use to justify our sexual sin coupled with answers.

1. My sexual choices aren’t hurting anyone else.

I call this the Golden Rule idea. If it’s not hurting anyone else, what could be wrong with it? If a guy is sleeping with his girlfriend and the two of them are consenting adults, why should the church condemn that behavior? Likewise, if a woman wants to be in a monogamous sexual relationship with another woman, why does it matter as long as it’s not harming anyone else?

The truth is, sexual sin does harm us. It’s a sin against the body.

We also must remember that the Golden Rule (love your neighbor) is second to the greatest commandment (love God with your whole self). Jesus said clearly in the Gospel of John that those who love him obey his commands (see John 14:15). In other words, “If you love me, obey me.”

When you place the Golden Rule within the framework of biblical teaching, you see that sexual sin is a sin against our own bodies and is ultimately a sign of our rebellion against the God who made us.

2. We’re all sinners, so who are you to judge?

Whenever Christians affirm Jesus’ vision for human sexuality, we are often greeted with the comeback line “So you’re perfect, then?”
