Rand Paul and Moral Leadership on Abortion

Posted on May 3, 2014 in Life by

When William Wilberforce began his quest to end slavery, public opinion and the political forces were against him. In his greatest legal victory, years before they outlawed slavery, he achieved it knowing it was contrary to the majority of people in England and expected the law to bankrupt the nation.

Moral stands are some of the most difficult stands to take when you are facing headwinds. It is easy to think that moral issues are less important than economic or scientific, but as Christians we know they are not only as important, they are more important.

So, when Rand Paul (or any politician) says he believes life begins at conception, but pushes off any legislation until “we can get consensus”, he shows cowardliness not leadership. (Video below)

PET SCANS REVEAL SOME IN VEGETATIVE STATES COULD HAVE IMPROVED

Posted on April 29, 2014 in Life by

The New York Times recently reported that many people who are/were in a vegetative state and was once considered unable to ever recover, could have recovered.

In other words, people who doctors, judges, families and social workers made life ending decisions, it is now discovered, could have recovered.

Dr. Steven Laureys, an author of the new study and the director of the Coma Science Group at the University of Liège in Belgium, studied people considered in a vegetative state and one of his conclusionsstated, “Bedside clinical examinations can have high rates of misdiagnosis of unresponsive wakefulness syndrome (vegetative state) or minimally conscious state.”

How significant is this misdiagnosis? Among those in a vegetative state, 31% were able to recover into a minimally conscience state or a higher level of consciousness within a year, despite giving no hope of recovery.

Is This Sign Offensive and Worthy of Jail?

Posted on April 28, 2014 in Life by

A sign held by a pro-life activist in front of a Toronto abortion clinic has been called “disturbing,” “offensive,” “disruptive,” “disgusting,” “threatening” and “intimidating.” But is the sign really that bad?
The sign simply shows a crying infant with the words “Why, mom, when I have so much love to give?”

But according to one article, that sign landed pro life activist Linda Gibbons in jail. Is that really necessary?

More Aborted Babies Being Burned as Heating Fuel

Posted on April 24, 2014 in Life by

Remember the shocking report from the UK about aborted babies being burned as heating fuel? Another report has surfaced but this time the aborted babies are being used to heat places right here in the United States!

A report states:

“An Oregon county commission has ordered an incinerator to stop accepting boxed medical waste to generate electricity after learning the waste it’s been burning may include tissue from aborted fetuses from British Columbia.”

There you have it, aborted babies are marked as “medical waste” and used to heat homes. Can we really be shocked and surprised at such actions when Planned Parenthood continually tells us that unborn children are just a “clump of cells” or “blobs of tissue”? If they’re just cells and tissue why not burn them to heat homes? But our sensibilities and morals tell us otherwise. They tell us that burning the remains of murdered children is wrong. So we are justifiably angry.

An article at LifeNews.com carries the comment of one of the commissioner’s overseeing the factor where the incident is said to have occurred:

“We are outraged and disgusted that this material could be included in medical waste received at the facility,” said Commissioner Janet Carlson. “We did not know this practice was occurring until today. We are taking immediate action and initiating discussions with Covanta Marion to make certain that this type of medical waste is not accepted in the future.”

I’m glad she is “outraged and disgusted” with the incident. I have a feeling most people would be. The problem is that this is a result of the throwaway culture being created by abortion activists like Planned Parenthood. You can’t foster a respect for life that prevents these incidents while telling people it’s okay to kill their unborn children. The two are incompatible. So if we are really shocked and disgusted let’s take action against the groups responsible for creating the culture. Let’s end abortion once and for all.

Powerful Letter from Dad to His Miscarried Son

Posted on April 17, 2014 in Life by

The picture in this post is that of Scotland Riles. Scotland was miscarried at 20 weeks. But this tragic story has an element of hope and purpose as the father, Tommy Riles, shares the story of his son. Rather than simply having their son removed and discarded as a mass of tissue, the Riles family, as a result of their faith, chose to go through labor and give birth to their son.

After the labor and delivery process, the Riles family spent time with their son, singing, praying, and talking to him. Tommy wrote a letter to his son in which he told him he was proud of his son. Part of that letter says:

What Evidence Shows Manchin and Tomblin are Really Pro-Life?

Posted on April 15, 2014 in Life by

West Virginia politics is one of the strangest animals in the zoo. Or perhaps the whole zoo is strange. The more I dive into the political system in West Virginia the more confused I become as it seemingly makes no sense.

Here’s a good example of what I’m talking about.

A former governor of West Virginia that claims to be pro-life allowed an abortion clinic to operate down the road from his office for years without lifting a finger. He could have brought common sense health and safety regulations to this completely unregulated clinic, he could have even sought to ban abortion. After all, pro-life people generally don’t like any abortions, much less unregulated ones taking place. Yet, as governor, he did nothing.

That former governor is now a senator, where, once again, he claims to be pro-life while he does little to nothing to defend and protect life either is his home state or the nation as a whole. But he recently said that would vote for a federal 20 week abortion ban if it comes up for a vote in the senate.

Shock Report: Bodies of Babies Used As Fuel to Heat Hospitals

Posted on April 7, 2014 in Life by

A disturbing report from the United Kingdom is causing an uproar all the way across the pond here in the United States. An investigation has led to the conclusion that thousands of unborn and miscarried babies were used as fuel in incinerators to heat hospitals. LifeNews.com reports:

“One of the country’s leading hospitals, Addenbrooke’s in Cambridge, incinerated 797 babies below 13 weeks gestation at their own ‘waste to energy’ plant. The mothers were told the remains had been ‘cremated.’ Another ‘waste to energy’ facility at Ipswich Hospital, operated by a private contractor, incinerated 1,101 foetal remains between 2011 and 2013. They were brought in from another hospital before being burned, generating energy for the hospital site.”

The shock and disgust has come mostly from pro-life camps as the pro-abortion crowd seems strangely silent. Then again, if you approve of ripping unborn babies apart limb from limb then what is the big deal about using their body parts to heat a hospital?

Is There a Connection Between Planned Parenthood and the Girl Scouts?

Posted on April 5, 2014 in Life by

That question has been asked a lot more in recent years and evidence surfaces of what appears to be a connection between the nation’s largest abortion merchant and the respected girls organization.

In this video clip LifeNews.com founder Steven Ertelt discusses the question of whether there really is a link between Planned Parenthood and the Girl Scouts. Ertelt talks about everything from former Girl Scouts CEO Cathy Cloninger’s statement that the Girl Scouts works with Planned Parenthood to the fact that the two groups hosting events together. Ertelt also talks about the women the Girl Scouts choose to honor, including Wendy Davis, Gloria Steinem, and Kathleen Sebelius.

If you are unsure of whether these two groups are in any way linked, this video should clear the question up. If the video doesn’t appear automatically, please refresh your browser.

Governor Signs 20 Week Abortion Ban – in Mississippi

Posted on April 4, 2014 in Life by

Fox News: “Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant said Tuesday that he looks forward to quickly signing a bill that would ban abortion at 20 weeks, the midpoint of a full-term pregnancy. ‘This measure represents a great effort to protect the unborn in Mississippi,’ Bryant said in a statement after House Bill 1400 passed the House 91-20 and the Senate 41-10.”

Just days after West Virginia governor Earl Ray Tomblin decided to veto a 20 week abortion ban because his legal team said it was “unconstitutional,” Mississippi governor Phil Bryant is preparing to sign one into law. Apparently Gov. Bryant did not consult Gov. Tomblin’s legal team to know such bills are unconstitutional. Apparently the other dozen states and the U.S. House of Representatives did not consult Gov. Tomblin’s legal team to know such bill are unconstitutional.

Or maybe Gov. Tomblin is playing political games to protect vulnerable Democrat lawmakers up for re-election in 2014.

Perhaps Gov. Tomblin is is signaling to national Democrats that he is with them on this issue in order to gain favor as he seeks federal office.

It could be that Gov. Tomblin’s claim to be “pro-life” is nothing more than empty words since his voting record does not reflect such a claim.

Whatever the reasons, one thing is clear, Gov. Tomblin’s legal team gave bad advice, and Gov. Tomblin should have signed the bill in order to show West Virginians that he truly is pro-life. The fact that he vetoed the bill while claiming to be pro-life is hypocrisy at its worst and West Virginia can do better.
