Regulating the Abortion Industry Takes Uncommon Common Sense
Posted on December 4, 2013 in Life, Public Policy by Nathan Cherry
Planned Parenthood vehemently opposes any laws requiring abortionists to have admitting privileges at local hospitals. Abortion advocates often refer to such laws as TRAP laws – Targeted Regulation of Abortion Providers – and say their sole purpose is to put undue burden and stigma on abortionists. But is that the truth behind these laws?
First, let’s be clear about what laws requiring admitting privileges are. These laws simply require that any medical professional that performs any type of invasive surgical procedure hold admitting privileges at a hospital close to the clinic where the procedures are being performed. Admitting privileges simply means the medical professional is allowed to attend to the needs of their patient should something go wrong and the person need to be admitted to the hospital.
So, in essence, all these laws are doing is to require a person performing medical procedures be allowed to serve their patient at a local hospital should something go wrong. That seems like an easy to understand, common sense requirement for any medical professional; one that a doctor would gladly endorse in an effort to serve his or her patients.
In fact, so common is this practice of requiring admitting privileges that at least 32 professional medical associations have this requirement for their doctors. A recent article explains: Continue reading…
Abortion Breast Cancer Link Worse Than Previously Thought
Posted on December 3, 2013 in Life by Nathan Cherry
It was previously believed that having an abortion increased the risk of breast cancer by 30%. But a new study says it’s much worse than that. According to a peer-reviewed meta-study’s findings, the risk of breast cancer is increased by an astounding 44%. A report states:
“[T]he overall risk of developing breast cancer among women who had at least one induced abortion was significantly increased by 44%…Since 2003, armed with this new official “truth”, NARAL and their ilk have viciously been attacking pro-life pregnancy resource centers (PRCs) for “lying” to women by telling them about the ABC link as a reality. In places like Maryland and New York City, they even went so far as to enact laws to muzzle the PRCs. Thankfully, the courts have struck down such laws as violations of free speech rights–so far.”
While NARAl and Planned Parenthood accuse pro-lifers of waging a “war on women,” they continue to lie to women about the risk of breast cancer just to make money and kill unborn children. Click here for original article.
Explaining the Federal Court Ruling Striking Down the Housing Allowance for Pastors
Posted on December 3, 2013 in Public Policy by Nathan Cherry
One of the most deceptive attacks on religious freedom has taken place and you might not have even heard about it.
I briefly touched on this subject last week just a couple of days after it happened, but I want to spend a little more time unpacking how a recent decision by a federal judge could significantly impact religious freedom across the nation.
On Friday, November, 22, 2013, federal district court judge Barbara Crabb issued an order declaring the minister’s housing allowance in the IRS Code unconstitutional. Siding with the Freedom From Religion Foundation, judge Crabb agreed that the housing allowance exemption violates the Establishment Clause of the Constitution.
The first thing to understand is that this ruling has not gone into effect at this time and will not go into effect until the appeals process has been completed. Almost as if the judge anticipated the outpouring of appeals, she decided to stay her ruling until after that process. So for now nothing has changed and pastors and churches don’t have to worry about the impact of the ruling. On this aspect of the ruling senior legal counsel for Alliance Defending Freedom Erik Stanley noted: Continue reading…
Should Gay Men Be Allowed to Give Blood?
Posted on December 2, 2013 in Public Policy, Sexuality by Nathan Cherry
The Washington Times posted an article highlighting the push to end a federal ban on gay men from giving blood. The article states: “Supporters of the policy say politics, not science, is driving the proposed change, which would heighten the risk of spreading HIV, the virus that causes AIDS, when the medical demand for blood donations is decreasing. Under Food and Drug Administration rules, men who have had sex with men (MSM) since 1977 are ineligible to donate blood. An acknowledgment of having male homosexual relations at any time in one’s life is enough to disqualify a potential donor.”
Is it time to end this ban and allow the group primarily responsible for the spread of HIV and AIDS to add their blood to the nation’s blood supply? The one fact that homosexual men cannot deny or overcome is that they are primarily responsible for transmitting HIV and AIDS; a fact even the CDC confirms. So is it wise to allow this group to donate blood? Would such a decision open the nation’s blood supply to contamination and risk infecting others? Those difficult questions must be addressed before a decision is made. Click here for original article.
Real Parents Don’t Encourage Gender Confusion in Children
Posted on December 2, 2013 in Sexuality by Nathan Cherry
Either the number of people claiming to be “gender confused” has dramatically risen over the past few years, or scores of confused people from the past few decades have a secret. One thing is for sure, gender confusion is now front and center in our culture.
Personally, I think the number of gender confused people has risen dramatically over the past few years. Not because people did not face such confusion in the past, but because in the past their confusion was met with compassionate counsel that encouraged them to embrace their biological gender. Today, however, such counsel is labeled “intolerant” and “bigoted” and all but outlawed.
There is a considerable amount of effort presently to affirm those who are gender confused; particularly among youth and younger generations. It’s almost as if older gender confused people are angry that no one ever affirmed their confusion so they want to retaliate by affirming even the slightest hint of confusion in students and teens.
This affirmation is particularly heinous as it attacks young, impressionable teens at a time when they are already confused about many things in life. The last thing they need is someone encouraging confusion about their gender in violation of their biology. The effects of push to affirm gender confusion, especially in teens, can be seen in the substance abuse rates among gender confused people. Continue reading…
Doug Mainwaring: Homosexual’s Are Not Soulless
Posted on November 30, 2013 in Marriage by Nathan Cherry
I have a great amount of respect for Doug Mainwaring. His life is interesting for a number of reasons; perhaps most intriguing to me is that he is a same-sex attracted man, married to a woman, fighting against marriage redefinition. Doug has been in homosexual relationships before, but his faith helped him understand that being gay was not who he was.
Mainwaring has written a response to a book by Jonathan Rauch in which Rauch claims that only marriage can make gays and lesbians whole. Mainwaring response is not only an articulate critique of Rauch’s book, it is an intellectual disarming of Racuh’s entire premise. I highly recommend you read this fine piece of writing.
Jonathan Rauch, in his memoir Denial, argues that only access to the institution of marriage can make gays and lesbians whole. In doing so, he purposefully suppresses the truth that there are many other options available to those who are attracted to persons of the same sex.
Last spring, Jonathan Rauch, Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institute and long-time same-sex marriage advocate, published Denial: My 25 Years Without a Soul. In this brief autobiography, Rauch describes the tortured first decades of his life as a same-sex attracted male. Continue reading…
Undercover Video Shows Statutory Rapist Getting Abortion Drug While Victim is With Him
Posted on November 29, 2013 in Life by Nathan Cherry
What makes videos like these so unbelievable is the ease and comfort the pharmacists show in selling an abortion drug to an admitted statutory rapist while his victim stands with him. It is an appalling site to watch this rapist tell the pharmacists that he is having an illegal sexual relationship with a minor and see them show absolutely no concern. This further proves that medical professionals are not concerned with protecting minors and gives greater evidence that parents must be vigilant in protecting their kids.
This also shows that that bottom line for those peddling abortion drugs has nothing to do with women’s health but simply to create another avenue for money and abortion. The idea that a minor cannot buy certain pain and cold medicines while being able to buy an abortion drug is absurd. Yet such is the case with Plan B; a drug known to cause severe side effects including death.

A Worthy Proclamation: President Abraham Lincoln’s Thanksgiving Day Proclamation
Posted on November 28, 2013 in Religious Freedom by Nathan Cherry
On this historic day of thanks we pause for a moment to look back and remember the blessings we have been granted by Almighty God over the past year. It is customary for the sitting president to issue a Thanksgiving Day proclamation, a tradition that has endured for many years.
One of the most memorable proclamations was offered by President Abraham Lincoln in 1863. Though Thanksgiving had been officially recognized and celebrated before 1863, celebration of the day was dwindling. It was revived in 1863 when Abraham Lincoln once again officially recognized the day and called for all Americans to celebrate on the last Thursday in November.
Lincoln made faith in God a central part of his proclamation in recognizing the providence and provision of Almighty God in the blessings experienced by America. President before and after Lincoln would similarly recognize the central role faith and the providence and provision of God played in American history.

Can We At Least Be Content and Thankful on Thanksgiving?
Posted on November 27, 2013 in Family by Nathan Cherry
The following is an article I came across and wanted to share. It is a commentary on the American consumer society and how we can’t even be content for a few hours on what is supposed to be a national day of thanks. Rather than spending time with our families being thankful, we are arranging shopping trips to buy more because we just can’t be content, not even for a few hours on Thanksgiving. Read it and be reminded of what a day of thanks is supposed to look like. And remember, if people weren’t willing to go out and shop, stores wouldn’t open at ridiculous times, like Thanksgiving.
Is nothing sacred? Stand up for real meaning of Thanksgiving, skip the shopping on Turkey Day
by T.J. McCormack
I was almost expecting it when the KMarts and Walmarts of the world announced their stores would be open this year on Thanksgiving night. Sigh. It seemed to reflect that good ol’ American over-the-top holiday consumerism which seems to creep up on us closer and closer to Labor Day every year.
But again, that’s the big boxes, the new stores on the block; the ones who HAVE to pull a stunt. Continue reading…
7 Things You Might Not Have Known About the Pilgrims
Posted on November 27, 2013 in Religious Freedom by Nathan Cherry
At Thanksgiving we briefly return our attention to the Pilgrims as we remember the incredible voyage they made to the “new world” in search of religious freedom. As we look back and remember not just the Pilgrims, but what our Founder’s endured to establish and ensure religious freedom in America it is almost surreal to think our greatest battle presently is over religious freedom.
Lest we forget the Pilgrims and their bravery and sacrifice, I want to share a few things you might not have known about that fateful voyage so many years ago.
1. All the people aboard the Mayflower were not Pilgrims: In our retelling of the story of the Mayflower we have often assumed that every person aboard was a Pilgrim in search of the new world for religious freedom. The historic truth is that some aboard the ship were simply along for the ride; others just wanted to “try something new.” Of the 102 people aboard the Mayflower, only 50 were actually Pilgrims. Also aboard the ship were sailors, dogs, rats and mice, cats, goats, pigs, and chickens.
2. One industrious Pilgrim, William Mullins, brought with him 126 pairs of shoes and 13 pairs of boots to the new world to sell to fellow settlers once they arrived. Continue reading…
