West Virginia Lawmakers Ready to Override Governor Veto – If Necessary

Posted on February 4, 2015 in Life by

West Virginia did something historic last fall when citizens of the state changed the color of the legislature from blue to red. It has been 80 years since Republicans had a majority voice in the state house. But citizens made their displeasure with current leadership clear when many Democratic incumbents were ousted in favor of Republican challengers. The same trend carried to federal races where two long-time Democratic congressional seats were won by Republicans.

After this historic “West Virginia Red Wave” the question on everyone’s mind was “will Republicans take advantage of this opportunity and actually do something?”

It seems the answer to that question is becoming clearer concerning one of the most pressing issues in our state.

West Virginia is one of just 9 states that have absolutely no abortion laws. An unborn child can be aborted up to the moment of birth for any reason in the state of West Virginia despite the fact that most of our residents identify as pro-life. The fact that ur state is primarily pro-life can also be seen in the fact that most of our elected officials are pro-life; even many among the Democratic party. West Virginians value life.

But last year when a bi-partisan majority in the state legislature passed our version of the pain capable unborn child protection act, our “pro-life” governor vetoed it. Gov. Tomblin said simply that he thought it was unconstitutional and therefore vetoed it.

Amazing Picture! Baby Born at 24 Weeks Changing the Late-Term Abortion Debate

Sadly, most people don’t know the abortion laws in their state. Deliberate attempts to keep people in the dark are meant to eemilycaines2ncourage apathy – which in turn continues to allow abortion groups to kill unborn kids.

In my home state of West Virginia I am amazed at the number of people that are unaware of the non-existent abortion laws. In the Mountaineer state a baby can be killed up to the moment of birth, for any reason. There is no law limiting abortion or even regulating the abortion industry. Abortion is a free for all in West Virginia.

Within this ongoing conversation is the aspect of “late-term abortion” and what the legal limit should be; whether 24 weeks (the current standard) or earlier. As science continually shows us the humanity of the unborn at 8 weeks, 16 weeks and 20 weeks; pro-life advocates have begun an aggressive campaign to see the 24 week abortion limit moved to no later than 20 weeks.

WV State Lawmakers Vote to Support Later Term Abortion. Here’s How They Voted.

Once again our lawmakers have claimed to be pro-life while proving they support the unregulated abortion industry in West Virginia. They have ignored the overwhelming majority of West Virginians that support life and want to see the abortion industry regulated. They have shown that decades of one party leadership in West Virginia is partially responsible for the position we are in nationally. They have failed.

To the lawmakers that voted to defend unborn children from torture and pain, thank you. To those who turned a blind eye to the suffering of West Virginia’s most vulnerable mountaineers, shame on you. The graphic below shows exactly how each lawmaker voted on this critical bill. I highly recommend letting your lawmaker know if you are pleased with his or her vote.
