You won’t hear this in the news tonight. But a new poll shows that most Americans support abortion restrictions and do not support abortion on demand up to the moment of birth. Currently in my home state of West Virginia the abortion industry is unregulated and abortion is legal up to the moment of birth. Our lawmakers seem indifferent to this fact and turn a blind eye. But this poll bears the truth of what most West Virginians and Americans in general believe about abortion.

LifeNews.com: “The Marist University poll, which was sponsored by the Knights of Columbus, finds 62% of all Americans support “changing laws to allow for some restrictions on abortion,” while 84 percent of Americans do not support abortion on demand up until the birth of the child.

“The poll also found 28 percent believe that abortion should be legal only in the first three months of a pregnancy, while 33 percent think that abortion should only be legal in cases of rape, incest, and danger to the mother’s life. In other words two-thirds of Americans oppose all or virtually all abortions.

“Over seven in ten Americans back banning abortions after twenty weeks, unless the mother’s life is in danger, the poll found — as Congress considers a ban on abortions after 20 weeks.

“According to the survey, support for restrictions on abortion includes 79 percent supporting a 24-hour waiting period, 58 percent supporting a woman receiving an ultrasound before her abortion and 80 percent supporting parental notification for underage patients. That extends even to “pro-choice”Americans — as 64% of those who say they are strongly pro-choice on abortion agreed to a 24-hour waiting period on abortion 62 percent support parental notification and 68 percent believe doctors who perform abortions should be required to have hospital admitting privileges.”
