Helpful Tips on Combatting Entitlement in Kids

Posted on January 21, 2014 in Family by

Good, I’m not the only one that struggles with the entitlement mentality in my kids, or me. My earlier post on this subject generated quite a bit of feedback from many who are facing similar issues. At least I know I am not alone in this struggle to counter the selfish, materialistic culture we now live in each day.

As I heard the comments and thoughts from different people on the previous article I got to thinking about the specific things my wife and I do to discourage entitlement and encourage giving; both in our kids and in ourselves. So I thought I would share some of those things in an effort to pass on the tips and practices that have helped us. I hope these thoughts are helpful to you and something you can use to build on for your own family.

VIDEO: Mom Destroys Common Core in 3 Minutes

Posted on January 20, 2014 in Home School, Public Policy by

I’ve had a lot of conversations about Common Core lately. Unfortunately many parents don’t know how dangerous this once-size-fits-all attempt at education really is. Not onyl does Common Core dumb down America’s academic standards, it removes parents are the primary educator of children and replaces them with government. And don’t get me started on the complete lack of morals hidden in Common Core.

If you don’t know much about Common Core I encourage you to do some home work. Most states have implemented it, but many are now backing out because they see how absurdly awful it truly is.

Watch the video below of a mother in Arkansas that went to her school board and absolutely destroyed Common Core with one single math problem in less than three minutes. If this math problem from Common Core doesn’t give you an idea of how inadequate these “standards” really are, it might be time to head back to school.

WV Attorney General Tells Legislature Abortion is Permitted Up to Birth in the State

Posted on January 20, 2014 in Life, Public Policy by

While answering questions before the legislature last week, West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey reiterated that West Virginia currently allows abortion for any reason up to the moment of birth. Controversy erupted last summer when Morrisey, in response to a lawsuit filed against the largest abortion clinic in the state, announced that his office would conduct an investigation into current abortion laws in the state.

The results of that investigation is that Morrisey has concluded that West Virginia does indeed allow abortions for any reason up to the moment of birth. In other words, West Virginia currently does not regulate the abortion industry operating within its borders. In fact, tattoo studios and hair salons are subject to more regulation than abortion clinics.

Morrisey told the legislature:

Would You Want Your 13-Year-Old Daughter Answering This Question?

As a parent I have the responsibility to teach my kids certain things about life. Among those things which I am to be the primary teacher for my kids are morality, theology, and manners. I don’t believe it is anyone else’s responsibility to impart this vital information to my kids and will not allow anyone else to obstruct or interfere with my responsibility.

Another very critical issue for which I believe I am primarily responsible for teaching my kids is sexuality. Some might be tempted to believe it is a school’s job or the government’s job (same thing) to teach children about sexuality when the truth is that it is a parent’s responsibility. Now, it is true that some parents have abdicated this role in their children’s lives to others: school, government, church. But this does not negate their responsibility, and creating alternative streams for education only further allows parents to be negligent rather than encouraging them to step up.

Report: The Extent of Religious Persecution in America

Posted on January 18, 2014 in Religious Freedom by

The Texas based Liberty Institute has released a report showing the extent of religious persecution in America for the 2013 year. The report is called: UNDENIABLE: The Survey of Hostility to Religion in America

The thorough 190 page report discusses such topics as attacks on religious liberty of churches and ministries, attacks on religious liberty in the public arena, and attacks on religious liberty in the schoolhouse.

Citing legal cases from around the country this report shows definitively that there is a concerted effort to persecute people of faith for simply living out their religious convictions. This effort is being perpetrated by many groups that all seek to remove religion and God from our country’s public life while forcing religious expression into the walls of the church.

I would encourage you to take a look at this report in order to understand just how assaulted our religious freedom truly is. And also to motivate you to defend religious freedom both in private and in public. Now more than ever America needs people that believe the sentiment of Founding Father Thomas Jefferson: “Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty.”

Abortion Survivor Pens Letter to Unborn Child

Sixty-two days. Today, my dear son or daughter, you are 62 days old. I say son or daughter, because, you are 62 days old in the womb today, so we don’t know a whole lot yet about you. But what we do know is this. You are ours and you are loved.

Without yet even seeing you, I feel your presence each day, and I look forward to your presence being made more aware to the world through a soon-to-be burgeoning belly and through movements that make your sister and father squeal with joy.

Has Feminism Helped or Hurt Our Daughters?

Posted on January 17, 2014 in Family, Marriage by

I’ve always thought that feminism was an effort perpetrated by a few really angry, hurt women to get otherwise happy women to become angry and hurt. Of course I’m thankful that certain unjust inequities were righted; such as voting. But to me it seems the overall point of feminism has been not to achieve equality, but superiority over men. Since the movement began it has seemingly lost roots in mere equality and rights and instead sought to elevate the worth of women over that of men in a perceived battle of dominance.

Perhaps no other aspect of society has been more impacted by feminism than that of sexuality.

Pope Francis: Abortion is “Horrific”

Posted on January 16, 2014 in Life by

Pope Francis delivered his most strongly worded address on the subject of abortion to date at his recent “State of the World” address. Critics of Pope Francis have often attacked the Pope for not speaking on the critical issue and leaving the world guessing as to where he really stands. The Pope removed all doubt when he said:
