The picture in this post is that of Scotland Riles. Scotland was miscarried at 20 weeks. But this tragic story has an element of hope and purpose as the father, Tommy Riles, shares the story of his son. Rather than simply having their son removed and discarded as a mass of tissue, the Riles family, as a result of their faith, chose to go through labor and give birth to their son.
After the labor and delivery process, the Riles family spent time with their son, singing, praying, and talking to him. Tommy wrote a letter to his son in which he told him he was proud of his son. Part of that letter says:
Video: Did You Know This Week is a Holy Week for Jews…and Christians?
Posted on April 16, 2014 in Theology by Nathan Cherry
As Christians we often hear about Palm Sunday, and Easter Sunday. Both are important historical dates in the life of Jesus that we remember and celebrate in the life of the church. But the week between those two Sunday’s is equally important should be remembered and celebrated as well. This “holy week” is the last week of Jesus’ earthly life and conveys much about his passion to redeem mankind.
Watch the short video below featuring Justin Taylor, Dr. Douglas Moo, and Dr. Andreas Köstenberger as they explain a little about this final week between two of the greatest dates in history.

If You Worship Your Kids There’s a Good Chance You’re Ruining Their Life. And Yours!
Posted on April 9, 2014 in Family by Nathan Cherry
Can I let you in on a little secret? It’s one of those things everybody used to know but somewhere along the way it got lost and now it seems fewer and fewer people know this; but it’s no less true today than it ever was. The big secret is this: kids are not the center of the universe!
In the past I’ve written on the danger of becoming a narcissistic parent. But on the opposite end of the spectrum, and equally as dangerous, is falling into the trap of worshipping your kids and believing they are the center of the universe. Countless well-meaning parents fall victim to this idea that children are the center of the home and parents are simply there to serve them. One prominent family advocate shares this message:
American Life League Report on Planned Parenthood Facilities
Posted on March 30, 2014 in Life by Nathan Cherry
This link will take you to a report by the American Life League concerning Planned Parenthood. While PP tries to masquerade as a women’s health organization we know they are in fact the nation’s largest abortion merchant. They primarily concern themselves with abortions and seek to perform as many life-ending procedures as possible.
This survey of Planned Parenthood facilities from the American Life Leagues STOPP International organization is telling for a number of reasons.
First of all, this report shows that the number of PP clinics and affiliates nationwide is shrinking. From nearly 1,200 in 1995 to less than 800 last year, the reach of Planned Parenthood is shrinking as the truth about the organization continues to spread.
Second, this report reminds us that there is only one Planned Parenthood affiliate clinic in West Virginia, located in Charleston. While it’s good to know there is only one, one is too many. The clinic in Charleston has proven to be a dangerous, unsafe place for women that does 5-7 abortions each day. We have no room to sit back and gloat that we have just one clinic when so many babies are dying in our mountains each day.
Speaking of the clinic in Charleston, why hasn’t Gov. Tomblin signed the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act passed by the state legislature earlier this month? With overwhelming support it seems Gov. Tomblin would be quick to sign such a life saving bill. He is “pro-life” after all.
Graph: Planned Parenthood Does 30% of All Abortions in the United States

Jill Stanek, reporting at LifeSiteNews.com, shares the following sickening statistics from recent reports regarding abortions in the United States and Planned Parenthood. If you think Planned Parenthood is about women’s health and all the rosy rhetoric they like to repeat, read this and think again.
American Life League’s STOPP reported in February:
Here are some comparative numbers based on theGuttmacher report entitled “Abortion Incidence and Service Availability in the United States, 2011,” and Planned Parenthood’s annual reports, showing Planned Parenthood’s ever-increasing share of the U.S. abortion market:
Planned Parenthood committed 31.6% of abortions nationwide in 2011
Planned Parenthood committed 23.3% of abortions nationwide in 2006
Planned Parenthood committed 16.5% of abortions nationwide in 2001
Planned Parenthood committed 11.3% of abortions nationwide in 1996
Planned Parenthood committed 8.5% of abortions nationwide in 1991
Planned Parenthood committed 6.2% of abortions nationwide in 1986
The graph below shows that Planned Parenthood abortions continue to soar, even as national abortion rates have declined and leveled off.
ADF to Gov. Tomblin: 20 Week Abortion Bill is Constitutionally Sound
Posted on March 19, 2014 in Life by Nathan Cherry
The Alliance Defending Freedom, a non-profit Christian legal group, sent a letter to Gov. Tomblin assuring him that the 20 week abortion ban that was overwhelmingly supported by the legislature is indeed constitutionally sound. Tomblin has questioned the legality of the bill while saying he is unsure if he will sign it. He has done so while claiming to be pro-life. The following was reported by ADF here.
Gov. Tomblin now has no reason to veto this bill and doing so will prove that his claim to be pro-life is more a campaign talking point than a conviction.
40 Days for Life: How Many Babies Have Been Saved So Far…
Posted on March 17, 2014 in Life by Nathan Cherry
St. Patrick’s Day should start with good news – and today we have plenty! So far during this campaign, we are aware of …… 142 babies who, through your prayers and the Lord’s mercy, have been saved from abortion.
Praise God!
Here are more stories of lives permanently changed on the sidewalks outside the abortion centers.
Full disclosure, I stopped watching Saturday Night Live years ago when it stopped being funny. The legends that emerged from the show Mike Myers, Dana Carvey, Adam Sandler, Chris Farley, etc., gave way to a new breed of “comedian” that rely’s more on laugh tracks and poking fun at traditional values than actual comedy.
The video clip below is no exception. In this skit from last Saturday’s episode that saw few laughs and terrible ratings, a group of women led by feminist Lena Dunham attack a man because he was instrumental in shutting down two Planned Parenthood clinics. Shocked, Dunham tells the audience that Planned Parenthood “provides low cost medical advice and care.” When the man in question is said to be a “not so nice guy,” Dunham chimes in with “I think that’s becoming obvious.”
I didn’t really need another reason not to watch Saturday Night Live. But if the show is now going to shill for Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion provider, I see no reason to watch or support the show at all. Watch the clip below to see the skit for yourself. If the video doesn’t appear automatically, please refresh your browser.
BREAKING: Fetal Pain Bill in West Virginia Awaiting Governor’s Signature!
Posted on March 10, 2014 in Life by Nathan Cherry
The much discussed Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act has passed every legislative hurdle that has been thrown at it. With much discussion the life saving bill has made it through the state senate and is now on its way to Gov. Tomblin for his signature. Unfortunately, if a quote in a recent article is any indication, the governor may not be signing the bill. The article stated:
“West Virginia Governor Earl Ray Tomblin said he’s concerned that a bill to prohibit abortions after 20 weeks could be unconstitutional. ‘Even the legislative attorneys and others have said that they feel that the bill is unconstitutional,’ he said Saturday.”
The bill passed by an 85-15 margin and would enjoy majority support in the state. And with provisions for the mother’s life embedded there is little doubt that the bill would stand up to judicial scrutiny.
Gov. Tomblin has always claimed to be pro-life but done little to nothing to defend life or advance life in West Virginia. This is his chance to put actions to his talk and prove to the people of West Virginia that he is more than just talk. If he chooses to veto this bill it will send shock waves across the state and keep West Virginia as one of just nine states with not a single limitation on abortion.
I encourage you to contact Gov. Tomblins office and let him know you support this bill and want to see him sign it. Our encouragement should not be necessary for someone that claims to be pro-life, but perhaps it will remove any hesitancy on the part of the Governor. (Click here to contact the Governor’s office.)
URGENT: Today Could Be the Day West Virginia Protects the Unborn!
Posted on March 8, 2014 in Life by Nathan Cherry
Today is a critical day in West Virginia, one long overdue. Today HB 4588, the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act will receive its third reading in the state senate. After passing the first and second readings all that is left is this third reading before the bill will be sent back to the house for a vote. If it passes the house vote it will be sent to the Governor for his signature.
Here’s why its important:
1. West Virginia is one of just 9 states that has no limitations on abortion. In other words an unborn child can be killed up to the moment of birth. That is a shame on every mountaineer. This bill would restrict abortions after approximately 22 weeks for the first time in our beautiful state.
2. It has been scientifically proven many times that unborn children at 20-22 weeks can feel pain. This means abortion at that age, usually done by ripping them limb from limb is nothing but torture. To think that our “civilized” society would allow such a thing to occur is absurd. HB 4588 would prevent such torture of unborn children.
3. This is important because it will tell us if Gov. Tomblin is truly pro-life or not. As governor he has done nothing to protect women and unborn children from the harms of abortion. He has encouraged no legislation while only talking about being pro-life. If he refuses to sign this bill we will know that his talk and his walk don’t agree.
Please pray for this bill and those that will be voting. Let your elected lawmakers know that you support it and want to see them do the same. You can reach any member of the house or senate here: www.legis.state.wv.us.
We are very close to enacting the first law that would protect women and children from the harms of abortion, let’s not let this one slip away due to apathy or a “busy day.”
